I have been training in the field of psychology, sexual health and couples therapy for over 15 years with my work in advocacy and sexual education beginning in 1999. I am a sex-positive, LGBTQ affirmative and kink/poly aware, trauma-informed therapist who works with both individuals and/or couples (of all ages, gender identities and orientations). I specialize in treating issues involving sexual function, sexual shame, sexual pain, sexual trauma, sexual inexperience, compulsive sexual behaviors around sex, porn, love or romance, addiction, low or hyper arousal, low or differing desire and performance anxiety. I also treat a range of psychological issues that impact sex and intimacy including anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD, medical trauma, loss/grief and difficult life transitions or challenges like the birth of a child, infertility and infidelity.
Working with my male clients is one of my most favorite aspects of my practice. Starting out as a female sex therapist I worried that I’d wouldn’t be able to relate to my male clients and truly be an agent for healing and growth. However, after doing this for many years, I have come to realize that I am a real asset for many of my male clients.
When it comes to my practice and life in general, my philosophy is simple: our relationships — with others and ourselves — can bring us either immense joy or deep suffering. The healthier our relationships, the happier and the more fulfilled we feel in all aspects of our lives. I believe that our connection to others is what carries and sustains us through this life.
Psychological trauma can take many forms including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Symptoms of PTSD include reliving the event or events that originally caused the trauma. My goal is to help my patients cope with the experiences that continue to negatively impact their day to day lives.
